No Shave November Gets Styled!

Our friend and client, John McDonald (Justin Heng Realty) took part in “No Shave November”. Throughout the month John challenged friends and associates to donate to The Banquet. As an added incentive, John would, come December, allow one of the “givers” to style his beard (and hair) however they’d like with the promise to wear the style for 72 hours. I, Dan Farris ended up with that honor.

In short order, the CMI creative team held a quick meeting and decided to call in a pro. In short order, John found himself in a chair at Southeastern Hair Design being groomed by owner Eileen Donley. Armed with the knowledge that John was soon to be pressed into service as a Salvation Army bell ringer, John’s new look became obvious. We’re still undecided whether it’s the glitter green and red ‘HO!” shaved into the back of John’s head, the multiple stripes running down his cheeks or the sparkly, blue jingle bells on curly blonde extensions hanging from his chin that still have us chuckling. What we do know is, it’s all for a couple of great causes, Eileen is amazing, and John is a good man…and a really good sport!

Sioux Falls Holiday Events & Charities

Every year, around the holidays, we take on a project or task that affords us the opportunity to help someone or give back to our community. We truly feel it is the best way to stay in touch with what the holiday season is truly about; and, to us, that means spreading some love, joy and goodwill to strangers and loved ones alike.

This year, we are taking our “little project” a bit further and are developing what we hope will be a your family’s source for information and updates on holiday and Christmas lanes, homes, light shows, events, charities and non-profits in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the surrounding areas this Christmas and holiday season.

This is a not for profit venture established as a way for us to give back to the community most of us grew up in and have an immense amount of love and respect for.

Our goal is simple: to provide helpful information about fun local holiday events while encouraging a spirit of goodwill.

Dakota Holidays was started by the team at Complete Media, who believes in the importance of giving back and the power of paying it forward.

Marketing with a bang!

Happy Independence Day from everyone at CMI!  Choose your advertising medium carefully.  There are plenty of options out there and all have their specific advantages and disadvantages.  For instance, television has come to be known as the “King of ad media”.  Along with that, television commercial spots are also the “King of cost”.  Do some research and find out what fits your budget the best along with what reaches out to your audience the most.  Follow the steps of your game plan and do not try to over think your promotional value.  Sometimes something simple can be of the greatest benefit.

Mobile Marketing - Effectively Build Customer Loyalty, Traffic & Sales

Thousands of businesses are using Mobile Marketing to drive traffic and increase sales, and it is growing exponentially. Businesses and organizations are enrolling their customers and employees into various programs, and then delivering targeted messages directly via the world’s most treasured device – a cell phone.

Mobile Marketing is more effective than traditional methods because it is founded on the concept of CHOICE. Customers that sign up for your program do so because THEY WANT TO RECEIVE YOUR PROMOTIONS... a marketer’s dream!

In addition, it’s convenient for the consumer. No more cutting out coupons from the newspaper (if even seen). Over 95% of text messages are read, so you know your customers will see your offer. To redeem your offer, they simply show the text message at checkout, or provide the clerk with a promo code that you include in your wireless promotions.

Today’s consumers almost NEVER leave home without their cell phone. That means they are always within reach and can receive your text promotion at home, at work or when they're out on the town.

Case studies have seen response to wireless advertising as high as 50%. What other medium provides this kind of return? Not only that but your text advertising is highly trackable, allowing you to measure results and determine return on investment for every promotional campaign.

Don’t wait to start building your list of customers; your customers are ready to get your information right NOW! Talk to COMPLETE MEDIA, INC TODAY!

QR CODES & SMALL BUSINESS

by Angela Kennecke

SIOUX FALLS, SD - Have you noticed those black and white bar codes on everything from magazines to your TV screen to signs? They're called Quick Response codes and can be scanned by a smartphone to bring you more information.

While they've been popular in Japan for more than a decade, they're just catching on in the U.S. And small businesses are figuring out ways to put QR codes to use.

A popular Sioux Falls Bakery has a new high-tech sign.

"A lot of people walking downtown might not come in here, but if they can scan and they see what we have, it will draw them into the store," Becky Smith of The Cookie Jar said.

The sign with the Quick Response code just went up last week, but The Cookie Jar has already seen people scanning it with their smartphones.

"It goes right to our special page on the website, so any specials we have going on for the month, I try to update that monthly. We can do a coupon on there. With Mother's Day coming up, I've got Mother's Day gifts. They can see that right away. It's instant," Smith said.

"It's going to be driven by the consumer. If people are using smartphones and using applications, it will start to take off," Marketing Director of Complete Media Matt Luke said.

Luke has helped his father's construction business use QR codes to let people know more about the renovation project at the old Security Bank Building on Main Street in Sioux Falls.

"The one about Security Bank history, we have old news articles on there about the history of the building and how Dillinger played a part in this building. It's interesting for audience to see how this building plays part in history of Sioux Falls," Luke said.

For a small business like the Cookie Jar, this kind of marketing tool comes at the right price.

"When you're a small business, you try to find something that's going to be cheaper or easy for us to buy into and this is definitely an affordable way to go and get all your info out there instead of just your name," Smith said.

Luke says while it may not cost the business anything, it's important to give the consumer something in return for taking the time to scan the barcode.

"Beyond just going to your website or a link to your FB page, what does the viewer actually get in return for scanning that code. Whether it's more information about a business, a special, it's a promotion or promotional video that gives the viewer, 'That was really cool that I took the time to do that,'" Luke said.

With their uses appearing to be unlimited, you're sure to see these barcodes pop up all over the place in the coming months.

Even the city of Sioux Falls is using QR Codes on public notification signs to give the public more information on projects.

QR Codes

The bottom line is your phone reads it and then directs you to the information the super saavy marketer attached to it. The boring stuff is it is a two dimensional bar code.

It is so new that the uses are unlimited. Who knew the entire list of uses of a computer when it took a room or more for the hard drive? If you want to see QR Codes in mass quantity, take a trip to Best Buy.

Here is where I want to see it used frequently – magazines! I’ve found myself in too many waiting rooms, thumbing through magazines, only to find the perfect article, recipe or product that would solve a dilemma in my life (yeah, right). But it would be wrong to rip out the page in the magazine! So sad for me. Oh wait, QR Codes – my hero!

If I can just get the rest of the world on board, sigh.
